Before I reiterate the thoughts and words of many today, I want to record sincere sympathies to the families and friends of the two hostages tragically killed in Martin Place. On behalf of all the members of CWA of NSW I add our prayers and respect to those being offered by every other Australian, whether they were born here or are newly arrived; whether they are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist, Hindu or Jewish.
Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson will be remembered by all of us. Two innocent people who had what their tormentor did not; families and friends who loved, respected and admired them. They will Rest in Peace.
The horrific act that led to their deaths shattered our belief that such a thing would never happen here, but the growing tribute and the outpouring of support shows that we, as a nation, will not let it destroy our generous spirit.
We should not give one disturbed individual that right.
Further shocking news coming out of Pakistan this morning provides us with just one of the reasons many escape their homelands to come to countries like Australia and it is up to all of us to ensure our ride together continues, as an example to those who would impose their will on others.
